In city news:

On a serious note and a good one - Councilman Lipscomb issued a letter of apology printed in the editorial page of the Dallas Morning News comparing the mayor to Hitler. Kudos to Mr. Lipscomb.

On other news from the City - we have the additional exemption now from the DCAD on our property taxes - the lower taxes are even on its web site, but I cannot get the County tax office to issue a new bill. I have called my Dallas Commissioner and see if they will do something so I can the new lower bill.

But know the City, I am now holding my breath.

On a light note:

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE
....one old love
she can imagine
going back to..
and one who reminds
her how far she has come...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

....enough money within her
control to move out and
rent a place of her own
even if she never wants
to or needs to...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

...something perfect to wear if
the employer or date of her dreams
wants to see her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

...a youth she's content
to leave behind...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

....a past juicy enough that
she's looking forward to
retelling it in her old age...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

....a set of screwdrivers,
cordless drill, and a black
lace bra...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

...one friend who always makes
her laugh... and one who lets
her cry...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

....a good piece of furniture
not previously owned by anyone
else in her family..

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

....eight matching plates, wine
glasses with stems, and a recipe
for a meal that will make her
guests feel honored..

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

....a feeling of control over
her destiny...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
...how to fall in love without
losing herself...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

...how to quit a job,
break up with a lover,
and confront a friend
without ruining the friendship...
and how to change a tire!!!!!!!

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

....when to try harder... and
when to walk away...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

....that she can't change the
length of her calves, the width
of her hips, or the nature of her
parents...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

....that her childhood may not!
have been perfect...but it's
over...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

....what she would and wouldn't
do for love or more...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

...how to live alone... even if
she doesn't like it...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

....whom she can trust,
whom she can't,
and why she shouldn't
take it personally...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

....where to go...
be it to her best friend's kitchen table...
or a charming inn in the woods...
when her soul needs soothing...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

what she can and can't
accomplish in a day...
a month...and a year...

Venerable Al calls the mayor a nazi. That's not really cool since she's jewish...

Ted Turner calls fox news a bunch of nazis... that reminds us of him grovelling for an apology in front of the Anti-Defamation League...

MoveOn.org portrays Bushjr as Hitler...

Nazis _killed_ 6 million Jews, 10 million Christians, and hundreds of millions of others (by war) in the 1930s and 1940s...

To liken one's opponents as nazis is to trivialize the deaths of all of those millions and the sacrifice of the heroes who fought them. And it's cheap rhetoric that ends dialogue.

I do not share your apparently positive view of Al Lipscomb. He was a politico who sold his honor. He would have been in jail for the rest of his life if he wasn't so good at faking ill health...

I really don't agree with the liberal who is currently mayor of Dallas on many areas of policy; but the "service" provided by most city departments (esp. Library, Sanitation, and Roads) under the former city manager should be enough by itself to make the citizens of Dallas rise up and demand greater accountability.

Sorry about the Anonymous posting--your blog deserves better...

Oh, but I agree with you entirely. I was giving Mr. Lipscomb the benefit of the doubt, which I should not have. He belongs in jail.

And when it comes down to it (especially after seeing the Auschwitz special on PBS) NO ONE should call anyone a Nazi. No one.

Thanks for the post. And Dallas does deserve better.
